An assembly that looks at the importance of communication skills and how employers value it. Also includes ways pupils can improve their skills through lessons and a challenge for them to complete over the following week. I have included a snap shot of an inspirational story with a video link but this can easily be left out and discussed instead. Finally there are references to growth mindset throughout.

An assembly that can be aimed at pupils from KS2 upwards. Explores the idea of friendship through real life stories and the many different ways it can manifest. Themes explored include friendship in times of extremes (POW camp), Olympic athletes and also historical using a story from ancient Greece. Links to further information, explanations and clips can be found in the note section of the slides.

An assembly about prayer and how different beliefs practice it. I have taken the angle of discussing similarities and differences and introduced the idea of atheist prayer (a thunk). There is a link to a clip from a Christian discussing why prayer is important to them. Notes and knowledge are included in the notes section of the slides. This could also be used as a presentation in a lesson.

Though this is designed for History, it is adaptable for any KS4 and 5 subject. I found parents were really positive to have an A5 sheet to take away with key dates of the exams, links to revision websites/text and other information such as the specification.

An assembly (presentation) about remembering past wars and the military. I have focused on the effects of war on the mental health of the soldiers. It includes: - Notes on each slide: background to wars, the environment and working with other people - A link to a clip (not YouTube) on the mental health of soldiers (on the final note slide)

A two page form that can be used by staff to report suspected cases where a female under 18 has been subjected to, or is in danger of, FGM. The form has a clear and easy structure: - Details of student (all key information required for when it is reported to police) - Details of concern - Action taken - Follow up action (with guidance for staff) This is a coherent way to keep records of any reported cases in school.

An assembly that looks at punishment over time and relates this to our views now. A great way to get pupils to think about how we should view punishment.

An assembly that explores conflict through examples of different types of employment, a closer look at diplomacy and also Winston Churchill. The final slide picks out some of the key messages that pupils could use when dealing with a difficult person.

An easily adaptable two page lesson proforma that can be used in all schools and key stages. - Includes sections on the make up of the class - Special Needs children etc - A coherent structure whereby a background to the lesson and a next steps section gives the observer a clear view of the context of the lesson - Planning section ensures the teacher covers the main areas they need to do prior to the lesson - I have left it as a Word Doc so the purchaser can amend the boxes according to their needs and the school

An assembly that focuses on the meaning of friendship with a twist looking at the difference between online friendship and face to face friendship. - Plenty of opportunity for discussion. You can add sections you feel are relevant if you want to. - Exploration of 3 qualities of friendship - A challenge poster task on friendship for pupils to complete over the week

An assembly or presentation about Halloween that includes facts and figures from the UK and USA. Also includes: - A look at the traditions and history of Halloween - Ways children can stay safe - Reference to stories, notes about Halloween (on slide notes) and links to further information to help you present it how you wish.

An assembly that looks at how children can effectively help each other, e.g. Peer Tutoring and Collaborative work making reference to the EEF toolkit. This is of course done in pupil speak!

An assembly that looks at honesty and fairness when treating others. Includes: - References to examples of poor guidance and how to improve this - Talks about giving feedback in lessons and being critical - A story that shows us how failure is easy to come across and why it is a key part of growing - Reference to effort and guidance as keys to developing growth mindset thinking. An assembly that looks at the effects of stress on young people. Aimed at KS3/4 but can easily be amended. - Slides on NSPCC study (with link in notes) - How stress shows itself externally and internally - Ways to combat stress

An assembly that explores the idea of being the first humans to set up a colony on Mars. It covers what NASA is doing to prepare (a short clip on a website is included) and looks at the preparation of astronauts and potential living conditions on the red planet. References to the Mars One programme is also included. Would suit all ages as can be adapted and requires interaction with the children in the audience through questioning.

A few tried and tested examples that staff and leaders in schools may find useful in planning your curriculum monitoring. The whole school monitoring template would be more useful for primary/middle school settings.
